Training Series: Confident in Therapy and worldview Questions

From September to December 2024, the IZRD will offer (digital) lectures and workshops as part of a pilot project for professionals in psychological counselling and psychotherapy, as well as child and adolescent psychotherapy, psychiatrists, and staff from other psychosocial professions. The project is funded by the Federal Agency for Civic Education (Bundeszentrale politische Bildung).

The focus will be on dealing with worldview-related conflicts and extremist attitudes, as well as the associated challenges faced by clients and patients.
The planned event formats aim to sensitise therapists in handling problematic, worldviews-related thought- and behavioural patterns, some of which might be associated with self- and external harm. They will also highlight the connections between mental disorders (illnesses) or therapeutic fields in general and radicalisation processes. Participants will be empowered to better understand and address worldview-related conflicts and extremist issues that arise in therapy. They will be encouraged to address these topics. Barriers in working with such clients or patients will be reduced through knowledge dissemination and reflection on one's own stance on the subject, thereby providing more targeted support to those in need of therapy.

The training programme thus provides practical foundational knowledge and raises awareness of extremism, conspiracy narratives, and other destructive or anti-democratic movements. It will focus on the influencing factors and development paths of radicalisation processes and present multi-perspective solutions for counselling and therapy. Additionally, it will promote collaboration and networking among professionals to better utilise and sustain resources in their field.
